Brief History
The state insurance and provident fund department was established in Rajasthan as
a welfare measure with a view to provide economic & social security to all the employees
of the Government of Rajasthan. Initially the department started with only 8000
employees under its umbrella in 1943. As on Jul,2023, approximately 7.73 lakh
SI Policy Holders, 2.54 lakh GPF and 5.42 lakh GPF 2004 account holders are being benefited under these
schemes.
In 1991, the department entered into general insurance business to provide coverage
to the property of State Government departments, Statutory Bodies viz. Boards, Corporations,
Co-operative societies and Registered Institutions etc against Fire, Motor, Marine
& Miscellaneous risks.
Some of the important milestones of the department are:
- 1-Jan-1954: Insurance scheme was made compulsory for all the State Government
employees.
- 1-May-1980: The GPF scheme which was optional earlier was also made compulsory
on all the Government employees. Earlier this scheme was applicable only to those
Government employees who were not eligible to subscribe under insurance scheme.
At present, there are 5.14 lakh subscribers under the scheme.
- 1-Apr-1989: Insurance scheme was extended to the employees of Zila Parishads
and Panchayat Samities also.
- 1-Apr-1991: General insurance business taken up by the Department
- 1-Apr-1995: The benefits of the insurance scheme were extended to all the
regular work charged employees.
- 1-May-1995: All the Government employees are being provided one more coverage
i.e. Group Personnel Accident Insurance Scheme, which was further extended for uniformed
police personnel's and all the employees of various electricity companies. The scheme
also provides coverage to the employees of various Local Bodies, Corporations, Boards,
Home-Guard and civil defense employees.
- 14-Nov-1995: Student Safety Accidental Insurance Scheme was introduced to
provide coverage against accident to all the students of Government schools, which
was extended for the students studying in added and non-added educational institutions
from 11-Dec-2002.
- 1-Jan-2004: New pension scheme was made applicable on all the employees entering
the Government service on 1-Jan-2004 or after this date. As on 12-Jul-2010, approximately
71 Thousand employees were enrolled under this scheme.
- 17-Aug-2005: Raj Mediclaim Scheme was introduced for State Government employees
who were appointed on or after 1-Jan-2004.
